Beam boys funny videos
Now that I've finally downloaded my phone images to my computer, you can enjoy a few silly videos compliments of Gavin and Trevor.
Road Trip!
We went on our first road trip around Colorado with the boys last weekend. We were invited to Esther and Steve's daughter, Jenny's, wedding in Cortez. If you don't know where Cortez Colorado is - think 4 corners - AKA - southwest corner of the state. About 8 hours from Lafayette. A road trip!
We left on Thursday morning and headed south on I-25 to Amalia, New Mexico. Our friend Jonathan moved down there a few years ago. (He was the officiant at our wedding). We got to meet his horses, chickens and dogs. The kids enjoyed chasing the chickens and meeting the horses. (Sorry, mom was too busy making sure the horses didn't step on the kids to take photos). The horses really liked the kids though and vise versa! The kids got to gather eggs from the chicken coup.
On Friday morning, we had fresh eggs for breakfast then hit the road. We were headed to the Sand Dunes. We brought a snow sled hoping to be able to sled down the dunes. Only 38 lb Gavin was able to get the sled to move! We hiked up a few dunes and sat and ate lunch. The kids enjoyed pushing the sand over the edge of the dunes. The amount of sand in their boots equaled a few table spoons each.
After an hour at the dunes, it was time to hit the road again. 3 hours later we made it to Durango for dinner then our final destination, Cortez, Colorado! We made it! Along the way we saw lots of Aspen trees with their bright yellow leaves. Joel saw the campground where Chevy Chase and family camped - Shady Acres - or whatever it was called in the movie. (I took photos on the way back at 60 mph). We pulled into the hotel parking lot and Gavin asked if he and Trevor would be sleeping in bunk beds. I told him to ask at the front desk. He asked and the girl politely apologized saying that they didn't have bunk beds! I was impressed that he asked.
On Saturday morning before the wedding, we went to Mesa Verde to see the cave dwellings. I visited Mesa Verde with mom about 11 years ago. The cave dwellings are still there! We took a steep path down with the kids to see one. Pretty amazing structures.
Joel took a few photos at Jenny and Fabian's wedding. I got to see a few former co-workers from Children's and the kids got to see what a wedding was all about. "Is it time for cake yet?" On the way back to our hotel, I made sure to get a photo of the kids with shirts with buttons - one small step for mom-kind. (the boys won't wear anything with buttons, zippers or snaps).
On Sunday, we headed east to Alamosa. We stopped at our hotel to check-in then made a bee line back to the Sand Dunes. This time we stopped at the visitor center to use our souvenir money from grandma. I'll let you figure out what we bought. (They rode in the trunk back to the house!). We took a nice hike down a path to the sand dunes and the river.
(The little dot at the top of the hill is Joel!)
We continued our journey home on Monday. The whole way Joel and I kept saying how beautiful this state is. There is so much diversity in the landscapes - from high desert to mountains to plains. Beautiful!
Home again, home again, jig-a-dee-jig!
You've been updated!
Apple Picking
The day after daddy's birthday we went apple picking in Longmont. The kids and I wandered through the orchard and daddy picked the best apples from a variety of trees.
Last visit to the pool
We started off strong this year but time and interest waned towards the end of the summer. The kids did both venture into the big pool with their rafts. Gavin is a pro at going under and Trevor likes to make waves!
A bike ride by the lake
One Sunday we went for a morning bike ride at the lake (the kids biked and I chased on foot!). We talked to all of the fishermen/women to see if they caught anything - all answered no. Then we stopped to talk to the cows. They would get close but stayed a few feet away from the kids. Gavin was a little more brave and tried to get a little closer. The kids also learned about cow pies!
Monday off with Trevor
Since January I had Gavin home with me on Mondays. We ran errands, rode bikes and did all sorts of things. During the summer, I had both boys with me on Mondays. Now that Gavin is in kindergarten, he goes 5 days/week so I have off with Trevor! On this day, we rode our bikes to the park from school and played for a while! A neighbor friend gave him a Thomas the Train backpack - which he is wearing proudly!
2014 US Pro Cycling Challenge rolls through Boulder
We were excited to watch the pro cyclists that ride in Le Tour visit our own state in late August. Even if they are speeding by and we just catch a glimpse, it's exciting. Gavin and Trevor got to put on their official cycling jerseys one more time (not sure they'll fit next year!). We rang our cow bells loudly! It was a beautiful, picturesque Boulder day!
Museum of Nature and Science visit - August
We visited the Museum of Nature and Science just before school started. A final Monday adventure - just the three of us! We visited the dinosaurs, astronauts and the new kid zone. A fun day!

Max's birthday
In mid-August we went to a friends two year olds birthday party. It was at a rec center in Thornton. Great stuff to do there! We played on the playground equipment, went in the fountain, the restored carousel then the paddle boats. What fun!
