Gavin's 1 year appt

On Thursday, we went to Gavin's one year appointment. He is 20 lbs and 29.5 inches long! We thought he was getting heavy! The doctor went thru his questions - what is Gavin doing - crawling, check, pointing at things, check, walking - not yet. Well, again he jinxed us. The next day we were playing in the living room and he let go of his walking toy and came towards us - OH BOY! We thought it was a fluke so we had him do it a few more times. Sure enough - the kid can take a few steps on his own without our help!

Last time we visited the doctor, he asked if G was crawling, we said no. About two weeks later he started. Sure, he would have done it anyway - Joel thinks G started walking because we told the doctor he wasn't. It's the Auerbach blood!

Family Portrait

With the whole family in town, we had David take a few photos.
Included: Grandma Joyce, Uncle David and Aunt Jen, Grandma and Grandpa Beam, Uncle Neil, Aunt Rebekah and Cousin Landyn (almost 2!), mom, dad and Gavin.

More Birthday Photos!

Compliments of Uncle David!

Gavin's First Birthday!

Grandma Joyce came to town for Gavin's birthday. She arrived on Saturday night and stayed with us until Wednesday. Then she went up to Uncle David and Aunt Jen's in Loveland. Grandma and Grandpa Beam arrived on Wednesday. Uncle Neil, Aunt Rebekah and Cousin Landyn arrived on Saturday! We had a family filled week to celebrate Gavin's first birthday!

On Sunday the 21st, we celebrated G's birthday with family and friends. We strapped him into his high chair and sang Happy Birthday. He got quite a kick out of everyone staring at him and singing. Pretty funny to watch. Then we put a piece of chocolate cake on his tray and he went to town. He didn't make too much of a mess. He was pretty neat - for a 1 year old!

Later in the evening we opened presents. The house is certainly starting to look like a PlaySkool testing ground! Uncle David got G a toy fire truck that he can sit in (like the Flinstones) and roll around in. Cousin Landyn got in and G pushed her around in circles! G especially likes the working fire hose. He likes the water squirting into his mouth!

On Tuesday, G's actual birthday - it snowed. Just like last year - SNOW! It took me 3 hrs to get home from work so i almost missed the festivities. We had a few mini cupcakes and sang to him again.

It was a lot of fun having all the family in town. Thanks for visiting!

Second swimming "lesson"

Gavin had his second swim class this morning. Daddy came with us today - he was a welcome second set of hand! There was snow on the ground outside and the pool was CHILLY inside. Daisy, the instructor, insists that the pool we are in is the warmest - I don't want to try the other ones then! We got in and did our ring around the rosie and other activities to get used to being in the pool. The little man is getting a little more comfortable in the pool - I think he still prefers his 95 degree tub better - who wouldn't! One of the activities is to get a plastic cup and pour water over the little ones shoulders, ears and head - well, Gavin takes hold of the cup and won't let us use it! Instead he likes to chew on it. Just like that the 30 minute class was over - time for a bottle and nap - he's been down for 2.5 hours! Finally found something to wear him out!

Then and Now

We keep taking photos of Super G (ode to the Olympics) in his high chair. He doesn't look much different - maybe a bit leaner and a little more hair but now he has 2 teeth!

What's Gavin Up To?

The other day we were trying to figure out what Gavin was saying. He kept saying the same thing over and over again. We finally realized he was saying - tickle, tickle, tickle. Today Joel asked Maria at daycare and she confirmed it - she and the kids all say it to Gavin and he picked it up. Pretty funny. Other things we think he says - dada, mama, dog, ah-ao! We're pretty entertained at how he picks up things we're saying and doing. For better or worse, we taught him to climb the stairs to the second floor - thinking this will tire him out before bed - works sometimes! He's been sleeping through the night - some of the time. Just about every other night recently - up from once every month or two! Don't start! We're headed to the rec center tomorrow - we signed up for swim classes for ages 2 and under. Should be pretty entertaining. He loves the tub so we'll see how he does in a really big tub! "Whitey" will get in the pool with him - I might blind everyone in the place!
