After a 2 year battle with a type of rare blood cancer, my dad passed away this morning. Like everything else he ever did, he did it on his terms. He decided to end treatment yesterday. The doctors said it could be a day or it could be five days. He died in his sleep at the hospital with Deirdre by his side. David and I both got a chance to talk to him yesterday to say our final farewells.
Included are a few photos of dad: from our annual ski trip, my wedding and one of his antique Fords that he was in the process of restoring. Dad was a stubborn guy until the end - always doing it his way. Though we're sad to see him go and not meet Gavin in person, we knew he couldn't live this way - he was always active whether it be skiing, going to the market or just driving like a bat out of hell! We'll miss you.
So sorry about your dad. You are in our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIt's a strange thing that the sadness of loss seems to come on the heals of the joy of new life. It's as if there's just so much that can go around... we're thinking of you and love you!

I am so sorry to hear that! I know he is in a good place and no longer suffering from cancer. I love the pictures you posted of him, great memories for you!
